Abstract

Due to the recent developments in semiconductor growth and processing techniques, new semiconductors are now available for electronics and optoelectronics applications. Most of these semiconductors belong to theIII-V compound semiconductors group. These semiconductors provide tunable physical properties in a wide range, and they facilitate the fabrication of high performance electronic and optoelectronic devices and circuits. This talk will cover the applications of these semiconductors for cooled infrared detectors operating in the 3-5 and 8-12 micro m atmospheric windows as well as the related research work at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of METU. The feasibility of the new infrared materials and technologies will be assessed through a comparison with the existing technologies. The talk will also cover the encouraging results of the work on the feasibility of infrared focal plane arrays on Si and GaAs substrates in order to facilitate the monolithic or reliable hybrid integration of the detector array with the read-out integrated circuit.

This seminar is presented by the Turkey Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., (IEEE).
