ABSTRACT
The field of nanophotonics opened up new methods to control and process the light at the turn of the century mainly thanks to the contributions in the fields of plasmonics, metamaterials and photonic crystals. Thenceforth, nanophotonics has been a flourishing field aspiring to realize all-optical signal processing through the marriage of nanofabrication methods and optics/electromagnetics-based clever manipulations. Light transmission through subwavelength apertures, super-resolution focusing, nanoantennas, unidirectional transmission and spatial filtering can be listed as some of the outcomes of the previous efforts. More recently, our group has expanded the interest to the development of all dielectric solar cells, lithography-free large area absorbers and photodetectors, biomimetic sensors and nanolithography. Dr. Atilla Ozgur Cakmak will touch several of these key topics including the future emphasis on the problem of breaking the reciprocity to attain asymmetric transmission with topological photonics, metasurfaces, spatiotemporal modulation, nonlinearity and new emerging materials.

Biography
Dr. Atilla Ozgur Cakmak obtained his B.S. from Microelectronics Engineering and M.S. from Computer Science and Electronics both from Sabanci University in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Dr. Cakmak received his Ph.D. from Bilkent University in 2012 from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Bilkent University. He joined the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) as a postdoctoral researcher in 2013. Dr. Cakmak has been working as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Engineering Science and Mechanics Department at Penn State since 2018. Dr. Cakmak offers both undergraduate and graduate level courses at Penn State with the main emphasis on nanofabrication and nanophotonics. Dr. Cakmak has developed student-driven research topics while also co-advising Master's students. Dr. Cakmak has contributed with 20+ publications in leading journals in the field of nanophotonics and has been serving the community under different roles as editor, guest editor and reviewer. Dr. Cakmak is also the coordinator for the Remotely Accessible Instruments for Nanotechnology (RAIN) network that incorporates several partnering major universities across the USA.
